5th Annual East Town Market- Battle of the Chefs
Location:
Cathedral SquareMilwaukee, WI
Battles begin at 10:30am
The Battle of the Chefs gives four featured chefs a total of 45 minutes to create a dish using only a basic pantry, a mystery basket and items that they can purchase from the farm market vendors. There are three heats with four chefs each and the winners return for the Final Battle! Each week, a panel of judges chooses the winner based on presentation, taste, creativity and technique.

‘Know your farmer, love your food’, a glimpse into the Slow Food movement

This class, by Slow Food Wise co-leader Robert Stockinger, will discuss how the international Slow Food movement ushers us back to the gratifying pleasures of food and how food can support our families, communities and schools. We will discuss good, clean and fair food and the “Eat Local Challenge.” Learn the benefits of locally produced food and where to get it.

Tour de Farms
10 am start of bike ride

Combine bike riding, touring local farms and good local food; the result is The Tour de Farms. The idea is to reconnect with the people producing our food and to enjoy one of summer’s greatest pastimes: biking along country roads. Food, snacks and beverages will be provided along the route. We will then cap off the day with a farm dinner using local, seasonal foods.

13th Annual Midwest Value Added Ag Conference

River Country Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council is proud to announce the 13th annual Midwest Value Added Agriculture Conference being held January 27 & 28, 2011 in Madison, Wisconsin.
We are excited to be holding this year’s conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Wisconsin’s capital city of Madison. Keynote speaker Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm, best known for his appearances in Michael Pollan’s ” The Omnivore’s Dilemma” and Robert Kenner’s documentary “Food Inc.,” will give a keynote presentation Thursday morning followed by a farmer forum and Q&A session.
In its 12 years, the Midwest Value Added Agriculture Conference has assisted over 2000 farmers, encouraging them to explore new sustainable practices and market opportunities on their farms. This educational event is created by and for agricultural producers, educators, and service providers from across the region.
