Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats was founded in Wittenberg, Wisconsin in 1933 by Robert “R.C.” Nueske. The Nueske family had already been making delicious Applewood Smoked Meats with recipes they brought with them from the Old World for their own table and R.C. decided to try his hand at sharing the family’s delicacies with the rest of the world. He packed up his automobile and began traveling across Northern Wisconsin and began peddling his edible wares right from the back of his vehicle. People were blown away by the rich, smoky flavor of R.C.’s Applewood Smoked Meats and even though times were tough, they enjoyed sharing wonderful food with their families.
Today, Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats remains family-owned and operated and is still located in the tiny village of Wittenberg, Wisconsin. We continue to take much pride in hand-trimming, curing, and smoking our meats using the same recipes that R.C. learned from his grandfather. Bob Nueske, R.C.’s son, is the president of Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats and R.C.’s granddaughter (Bob’s daughter) Tanya Nueske is our vice president and national sales manager.
We’ve come a long way since R.C. pedaled his smoked meats from the back of his car, but we’re still creating the finest Applewood Smoked meats in the nation.
